"Every time I go to a new agency, I have to tell my child's story all over again. Then the therapist has to spend several sessions to see if my impressions are accurate. It's so frustrating."

KeyboardIn 2007, Mental Health Connection moved into the pilot phase of an information management system that had been under development since 2003. Five mental health agencies in Tarrant County participated in the pilot:

            • ACH Child and Family Services
            • Catholic Charities
            • Lena Pope Home
            • Santa Fe Youth Services
            • The Parenting CenterKeyboard Hands
For several months, these agencies worked with Mental Health Connection to tweak the system so it mettheir needs, and in 2008, DataLink rolled out to the remainder of the mental health community. The online system expedites referrals while sharing client information between agencies.

Computer EntryHow Do I Put Data in the System?

DataLink was initially designed for agencies to use as their client information management system. However, through the pilot, it became clear that many agencies already had systems in place. At this point, the data must be entered in each information system used by the agency. However, changes may be on the way. Mental Health Connection is exploring a model that reaches out to different systems and pulls approved information as needed. There would be no double entry. At the same time, DataLink can continue to be used as the primary client database for agencies who need it.

Every subscription to DataLink includes experts who will set up the program to meeting individual agencies' needs. Agencies also receive training in the use of DataLink.

How Does DataLink Ensure Client Confidentiality?

DataLink is fully compliant with both HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Patients who do not want their information shared can refuse to be added to the database. Those who want only certain information shared can designate their preferences. They can also determine which agencies can receive their information.

How Much Will DataLink Cost?

A benefit of DataLink is that the price goes down as the number of users increases. Additionally, several smaller agencies can work together as a network, sharing the costs. For information on current pricing, click here. For additional information, email info@mentalhealthconnection.org.
