Mental Health Connection (MHC) was established in 1999, after a man suffering from an untreated mental illness carried out the Wedgewood Baptist Church shooting before turning the gun on himself. By direction of then Fort Worth Mayor, Kenneth Barr, mental health providers and MHC have since instituted continuous coordination, training, and initiatives, together developing long-term changes that address gaps in the system and emerging needs within the community.
